Peter Massey

I started painting when my daughter, Angela, gave me a box of water-colours for my birthday 22 years ago. My intention was to use them up and stop. However, I found that I was hooked.

I have always admired painting but thought that painting required a great deal of talent. I took some workshops, watched many instructional videos and over the years through much frustration I started to see my natural style develop.

My subject matter has always leaned towards atmosphere and light. I found a good source for this are coastal scenes. I am not aiming for a photographic realism, but a certain quality of light and atmosphere that comes out of the almost abstract texture of the brushstrokes and subtle colours.

If ever my paintings look like photographs, I immediately get rid of it and start again. It is a never-ending journey I will never tire of.
