Jane Everett
A Northamptonshire based, self-taught ‘crochetier’, Jane first picked up a crochet hook as a young teenager and has been crocheting ever since. Other crafting pursuits have included cross stitch cards, button & bead pictures and sewing sock monkey toys but she is always drawn back to crochet probably because there are so many techniques to try and it is a craft that lends itself to creativity and experimentation.
She has since become skilled at making amigurumi, small crocheted toys, and has used tiny crochet hooks and embroidery thread to make micro crochet jewellery. This has led to working with very large crochet hooks and thick macramé cord or recycled T-shirt yarn to design and make bags, baskets and home décor items, exploring the structural and textural qualities of crocheted fabric.
Jane has recently begun researching and using freeform crochet, especially hyperbolic crochet, to create crochet art. She is enjoying the challenge of representing aspects of the natural world using crochet and plans to combine crochet with other techniques such as needlefelting and embroidery in future pieces. She also wants to continue encouraging and teaching others to take up crochet as a mindful, useful, and creative activity.
