Photos of some of the people recognised for their help to the Centre during 2016

Helen Nellis, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire presented a notebook and pen to some recent fundraisers and volunteers who had been invited as representatives of all of the members and supporters who raise funds for the Centre or who help out in many ways.

Gill Parish – volunteered at the Centre for about 18 years working on reception each week.

Gill Taylor – working as a volunteer to help our carer at the Centre and coming in each week with the most delicious cakes.

Wendy Mockford – for 2 years Wendy has raised funds to sponsor Bowen Therapy and for a hoist chair for allowing more people to use the hydro pool.

Jim, Alan, Ian and Paul – handymen. Each week Alan and Jim come in doing all of our small DIY jobs. Ian comes in twice/week looking after the grounds here and ensuring that our community workers are doing their bit outside and Paul who helps with small electrical jobs.

Some friends and family members of Maria Taverna organise a ball each year in Bedford, the Trinacria Ball. This year the chosen charity was us as they knew of a couple of people that use the Centre. Maria decided to help boost the funds by taking part in a parachute jump raising an amazing £2200 which was then added to the funds raised at the ball the giving a grand total of £11,000

Quite a few people took part in parachute jumps last year: we thank Bela, Scott, and Megan

Sarah Parry – one of our members of staff who has MS herself rose to the challenge of running the Silverstone half marathon. The time Sarah dedicated to training for this event paid off and she completed the race raising £1750

Jenny McCarthy – over 18 years of service as one of our Shiatsu therapists. You are already greatly missed by both staff and members, and we do wish you a fantastic retirement!

Peter Kimber has been a member here at the Centre for many years. Peter is a member of Bedford Rotary and came up with the idea of redecorating the Centre, which hadn’t been done since it was built in 1996. His rotary club got other clubs and a charitable trust involved too as the cost was higher than expected. The Centre has now been given a much-needed facelift and the new furniture paid for by another Charitable Trust completed the look for us!

Gordon Staple, whose wife attends the Centre, has been a Trustee for the last 2 years. Tracy thanked Gordon for his support to the Centre and for his help and guidance given to her in her new role over the last 12 months. Gordon is still staying on helping run HBO sessions and continuing to give us advice as and when required.
